enclosures, there is hardly any application where a W3
won't work its magic. Ideal for medium to high power
applications.
These remarkable subwoofers combine the benefits of our
patented VCR Technology with high thermal power handling
and insane linear excursion capability.
A custom steel basket with an integrated spider platform
provides optimized suspension geometry and clearance for
the flat, progressive roll spiders used on W3
subwoofers. The result is linear suspension behavior at
any listening level, which reduces distortion and
greatly enhances sound quality. (15W3 and 18W3 models
use separate spider standoffs for the same purpose).
The PowerBump forged backplate gives W3's exceptional
mechanical clearance for high-excursion use and is part
of the computer-optimized magnetic circuit that has been
painstakingly designed to deliver highly symmetrical
field strength on the forward and rearward stroke of the
diaphragm. The 15W3 and 18W3, feature an even more
radical forged and machined PowerBumpª backplate.
Massive four-layer voice coils wound on Kapton¨ formers
with very long winding lengths for extreme excursion
(see individual data sheets for specifications).
Double-density foam surrounds provide superior lateral
stability compared to rubber and synthetic rubber
surrounds, essential to proper behavior at very high
excursions.
Available in 8", 10", 12", 15" and 18" sizes.
W3's are offered in dual 2 ohm, dual 4 ohm and dual 6
ohm versions. (Except 15W3 and 18W3, which are not
available with dual 6 ohm voice coils.) |

15W3
As of its introduction, this monster is the
highest excursion subwoofer JL AUDIO has
ever built. (for the time being, anyway).
The 15W3 also marks the debut of JL AUDIO's
new . Like the original VRC System, this
design uses a vented reinforcement collar
for the joint between the cone, spider and
voice coil former. In the 15W3 (and 18W3),
this cooling system is enhanced with a
radially cross-vented machined pole piece
for incredible thermal performance. This
thermal stability, combined with the 15W3's
massive excursion potential make this
speaker a natural for high SPL applications
as well as the most critical sound quality
applications. Works extremely well in sealed
and ported enclosures and its dual voice
coil design gives the user a high degree of
application flexibility.
